Professional Development Resources Created by Forsyth Technical Community College
Forsyth Tech created this train-the-trainer program for educating local trainers in the development, support, and promotion of learning objects to further engage students in active learning. The purpose of this module is to promote leadership while enhancing the quality of career and technical education.
Learning objects are recognized as being both innovative and flexible integral components of instruction, especially in, but not restricted to, distance courses. A learning object, as defined by the North Carolina Learning Object Repository (NCLOR) Web site, is a “self-contained, reusable, standalone unit or ‘chunk’ of knowledge that is sequenced logically and provides the user (student) engagement and interaction.” Specifically, faculty use learning objects in a class to enhance a lesson or convey a difficult concept. The developers of the train-the-trainer workshop and this online module educated faculty on the creation and evaluation of interactive learning activities (ILAs), a more descriptive term than learning objects.
