NC-NET’s Eastern Regional Center, led by Martin Community College in Williamston, is responsible for the development of discipline-specific resources. The Center hosts numerous workshops throughout the year on both discipline-specific and instructional technology topics. |
Bring your classroom ALIVE with a five-step process focused on developing lessons that address different learning styles, integrate brain-learning research, and incorporate proven evaluation techniques. Facilitated by Dr. Pat Akers of P.A. Training Solutions, this interactive workshop will use the content of Using Classroom Assessment Techniques (CATS) to learn the ALIVE process of energizing your classroom.
What to Expect
Participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the concept of “human learning” and brain learning principles.
2. Describe the importance of CATS in evaluating student progress and teacher performance.
3. Write observable student learning outcomes (SLOs).
4. Select CATS to measure SLOs.
5. Apply brain learning strategies when developing lessons.
6. Apply the ALIVE process of designing lessons to your specific content.

Self-paced online modules developed by the Eastern Center include:
All self-paced modules can be accessed through the NC-NET Blackboard server. Log in with the user name faculty and the password nc-net. Once connected, you can view the courses by topic or alphabetically by title.
The Eastern Regional Center also offers an Excellence in Teaching Resource Room to provide North Carolina community college faculty with books, magazines, videos, and technology resources related to promoting excellence on the personal level and college level to better students and the community college system.
Another resource provided by the Eastern Center is the Online Teaching Resource Center, developed by noted researcher Dr. Susan Colaric of East Carolina University.
